The Chilumba Red is a species of Mbuna cichlid native to the rocky shores of Lake Malawi in Africa. Recognized for its striking rusty-orange coloration and downward-facing mouth, this fish is well-suited to aquariums with plenty of rockwork and compatible tank mates. It is herbivorous, using its specialized mouth to graze on algae in its natural habitat.

Natural Habitat and Behavior
The Chilumba Red originates from Lake Malawi, where it thrives in rocky environments with strong water currents.
With over 40 color morphs across the lake, Labeotropheus trewavasae displays incredible diversity. The Chilumba Red, from the rocky shores near Chilumba, is known for its vibrant red-orange coloration, making it one of the most striking varieties.
Unlike some Mbuna, this species tends to be less aggressive, making it suitable for carefully curated community tanks
Care Requirements

Rare Availability in Australia
Labeotropheus trewavasae is not commonly found in Australia as it is not currently on the approved live import list. Locally bred individuals, like ours, provide aquarists with a rare opportunity to enjoy this beautiful cichlid in their own aquariums.
